Overview:

Evaluate, select, and apply standard mine engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on moderately complex projects.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially on difficult assignments and possible solutions. Work is completed using standard engineering techniques and design principles and is reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound professional judgement.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Work closely with more senior members to support our consulting projects in cement raw materials, industrial materials, and aggregate production.

Do the Work

  • Mine Planning & Design: Develop short- and long-term mine plans, pit designs, and extraction sequences to optimize material recovery.
  • Resource Evaluation: Conduct geological and resource modeling, reserve estimations, and feasibility studies.
  • Operational Support: Provide technical guidance on drilling, blasting, material handling, and equipment selection to improve efficiency and safety.
  • Economic & Environmental Assessment: Assess mining costs, sustainability impacts, and compliance with regulatory requirements and assist with permitting.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Utilize mining software to analyze geological, geotechnical, and operational data, preparing technical reports and client presentations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal mining regulations, including health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Client Consultation: Work closely with clients to understand operational challenges and deliver tailored solutions for mine development and optimization.
  • Technology & Innovation: Stay updated on advancements in mining technology, automation, and sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
  • EIT a plus, PE or relevant mining certifications preferred.
  • Three or more (3+) years of experience in mining engineering, preferably in cement, industrial minerals, or construction aggregates. Consulting experience is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Surpac, MineSight, AutoCAD, or similar). Knowledge of drilling, blasting, and material handling techniques.
  • Knowledge of mining regulations, permitting processes, and environmental compliance.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with experience in geospatial data analysis and resource modeling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
  • Partly indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Partly outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, necessitating walking the assigned study area to complete data collection over the course of several hours.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
