Job Description

Join Us at the Top of the World!
Toolik Field Station (TFS) isn’t just a workplace—it’s an adventure. Located 360 miles north of Fairbanks along the Dalton Highway, TFS is a world-renowned hub for Arctic research that operates year-round. Each year, we welcome more than 400 scientists, students, and staff from around the globe, with the station community ranging anywhere from 3 to 150 people at a time.

As the TFS Camp Supervisor, you’ll be at the heart of it all—leading daily operations, supporting a talented team, and ensuring researchers have what they need to thrive in one of the most unique and challenging environments on Earth. This is a rare opportunity to combine leadership, hospitality, and adventure in the Arctic.

Do you thrive in challenging environments, enjoy supporting others, and want to make a real impact in the world of research? We’re seeking someone with a unique mix of leadership, people skills, and resilience to help manage operations at our remote field station.

Here’s what we’re looking for in our ideal candidate:

-Leadership & People Skills – You’re comfortable supervising teams, bringing out the best in others, and communicating effectively with a wide range of personalities.

-Human Resources Knowledge – You understand HR processes and can handle the planning, scheduling, and coordination that keep operations running smoothly.

-Operational Experience – Whether it’s remote station logistics, scientific fieldwork, or managing resources in extreme environments, you can adapt and plan ahead.

-Tech & Organization – You’re skilled with computer business applications and can juggle multiple priorities with confidence.

-Customer Service Mindset – You enjoy working with researchers, even under tight deadlines and high-pressure situations, and bring a hospitality approach to the work.

-Resilience & Adaptability – From harsh weather to long hours, you can handle the realities of Arctic fieldwork while staying positive and focused.

-Driving Skills – You’re prepared to drive solo for long distances (sometimes 9+ hours) in all types of road and weather conditions.

This isn’t just a job—it’s an adventure. If you’re excited by the idea of leading operations in a unique environment, supporting groundbreaking scientific research, and living in one of the most remote and beautiful places on Earth, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll bring a mix of education and hands-on experience. Ideally, you have a bachelor’s degree and several years of progressive responsibility managing operations in a remote field station, wilderness resort, or something similar. You’ve spent at least two years running a station (or equivalent) and five years leading teams—supervising 10 or more employees at a time. Just as important, you have strong interpersonal skills, a customer-service mindset, and the ability to lead and collaborate in a team-focused environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a bachelor’s degree and at least four years of progressively responsible experience in a related field—or an equivalent mix of training and experience that demonstrates your ability to do the job. A valid driver’s license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is also required

Preferred Qualifications
If you have a master’s degree in natural science, hospitality, or business administration, that’s a plus. Wilderness First Responder, EMT, or first aid certifications are also highly valued.
